Immersive AV Solutions at Indoor Adventure Venue
GoQuest

Overview

Hereworks partnered with GoQuest to deliver a transformative upgrade to their indoor adventure challenge venue, combining cutting-edge AV solutions with immersive gameplay. This ambitious project redefined how teams interact with games, score progress, and engage with dynamic environments, setting a new benchmark for interactive group entertainment.

About the Project

GoQuest is Ireland's ultimate indoor adventure challenge, offering fast-paced, team-based experiences that blend mental, physical, and skill-based games across a custom-designed arena. With two distinct experiences (GoQuest Arena and GoQuest Junior), the venue delivers immersive, clock-beating challenges for families, teens, adults, and corporate groups alike.

Hereworks partnered with GoQuest to deliver a full-scale AV technology upgrade across both spaces. This two-phase project aimed to elevate the gameplay experience while modernising the behind-the-scenes technical infrastructure. The Arena upgrade was completed in Summer 2024, followed by the Junior upgrade in January 2025. Each phase was delivered over an intensive two-week period, requiring precise planning, expert AV integration, and seamless execution to meet tight operational deadlines.

The Task

GoQuest's vision was to modernise its infrastructure and gameplay systems to create a more engaging, responsive, and scalable visitor experience. They wanted to move beyond a binary pass/fail scoring model and introduce a more dynamic system that rewarded progress and offered multiple modes of play. Additionally, they sought to enhance backend systems to allow for real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and analytics, ensuring staff could manage and troubleshoot games efficiently and proactively.

However, the project posed two significant challenges. First, the scope was unprecedented: this level of integration and innovation had never been attempted in the industry. As a result, every element had to be designed from scratch! Second, the upgrades had to be implemented within extremely tight timeframes. This required a flawless execution strategy with no margin for error.

The Solution

Hereworks approached the project with a comprehensive and innovative strategy that addressed the client's technical and experiential goals. The first step was a complete overhaul of the network infrastructure. We installed enterprise-grade switches, firewalls, and redundant power systems to create a robust and scalable foundation capable of supporting a converged network. Furthermore, we deployed new servers, control processors, and monitoring systems to ensure seamless data flow and centralised control.

We followed a four-phase approach: discovery and planning, full hardware installation, system commissioning and testing, and final stress testing. This structured process ensured every component (from sensors to servers) was installed, tested, and optimised for performance. Our team remained on-site during reopening to support a smooth launch and gather real-time feedback.

On the gameplay side, Hereworks developed a fully granular scoring system that allows teams to earn points based on their progress within each game. This replaced the previous binary model and introduced new layers of engagement. Players can now choose between standard mode, which awards points for progress, and expert mode, which introduces additional challenges and time constraints. Moreover, a new "superquest" button was added, functioning like a power-up that allows teams to earn bonus points.

We integrated a live scoreboard system into each room, which displays the team's photo, current score, and remaining session time, creating a more immersive and competitive environment. Hereworks also implemented a web-based Crestron XPanel that allows staff to centrally monitor and manage every game, sensor, and device in real time. This system enables remote diagnostics, testing of game logic and hardware, and tracking of usage statistics, including the number of attempts and success rates for each game mode.

We delivered the project in collaboration with Lucid Partnership, who handled team management and database programming. Key team members included Michael Joyce, who served as both Senior Programmer and Network Architect; Geoff Carragher, Media System Programmer; and Aaron Monahan, Lead Installer. Their combined expertise ensured that every aspect of the project was executed to the highest standard.

Results!

The completed upgrade leaves GoQuest with a future-ready, fully integrated adventure venue that delivers a more immersive, dynamic, and reliable experience for players and staff. With real-time scoring, multiple gameplay modes, and centralised system monitoring, the venue now operates more efficiently and offers a significantly enhanced user journey. The new infrastructure supports current demands and provides a scalable foundation for future innovation. This project stands as a benchmark in experiential AV integration: proof that the result is nothing short of transformative when creativity meets technical excellence.
