At Hereworks, we kicked off 2025 with a burst of enthusiasm, embracing health, camaraderie, and achievement. Our collective journey led us to participate in the Porterstown Parkrun 5K on March 22nd, marking a fantastic milestone for our team.

The team’s adventure began in January with an eight-week training program designed to transform beginners into confident 5K runners. Guided by Paddy Cassidy, Derek McBrien, and Ruth Dunne, training sessions were tailored to accommodate all fitness levels. Whether a novice or an experienced runner, the program offered a gradual progression from walking to running.

To keep things flexible, some colleagues opted to train individually at home or the gym, while others joined our lively group runs. These group sessions were held twice a week; Mondays from the Hereworks Ashbourne office and Wednesday evenings in the Phoenix Park.

As the big day approached, the excitement within Hereworks was undeniable. Our event coordinators shared valuable tips to ensure everyone was ready.

The atmosphere at the starting line was electric, filled with anticipation and team spirit. Participants cheered each other on throughout the race, offering encouragement and support.

Crossing the finish line was a moment of collective triumph. Each participant received a medal and a personalised certificate of achievement, celebrating their dedication and hard work. The event wrapped up with a delicious post-run brunch, distributing prizes and reflecting on our shared experience.

Here’s what the team had to say:

“Participating in the Hereworks couch to 5K with my colleagues was an incredible experience, even though I trained remotely. The weekly check-ins and our fun tradition of sharing post-run selfies kept me motivated and connected with the group. On the day of the run, there was an amazing sense of community not just from my colleagues but also from the organisers/volunteers at Porterstown. Paddy, who was coaching us throughout the training, was fantastic, appearing along the route with words of encouragement that kept me going! Crossing the finish line and receiving a certificate and medal gave me such a sense of accomplishment. To top it off, celebrating with a well-earned brunch afterwards made the experience even more special. It was fantastic to bond with my colleagues outside of work in such a fun and rewarding way.” ~ Lynsey Mockler, Bid Executive

“It was great to be able to take part and run alongside everyone, thoroughly enjoyable experience. There was a lot of effort went into the planning and organising, equally a lot of effort from each individual which resulted in fantastic achievements all round. Well done everyone!” ~ Jed Shevlin, Hereworks Office Administrator
